Lebanon registered a new record of 507 coronavirus cases and two new deaths Sunday, as the country went under a two-week partial lockdown to contain the fast spreading disease.
An overwhelming majority of the newly recorded cases were detected among the local population at 500, and seven among incoming travelers, raising the total number of registered cases to 12,698 since the virus was first detected in Lebanon on Feb. 21.
A total of 5,382 PCR tests were administered in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry report.
There have been a total of 123 deaths due to coronavirus complications.
Lebanon went under a two-week partial lockdown Friday, as the country witnessed an unprecedented surge in cases. Authorities have warned that some hospitals have reached coronavirus patient intake capacity and that the public health situation is precarious, urging people to abide by virus prevention guidelines.
