Zeinab Haidar, a Lebanese nurse who worked at Zahraa Hospital in Beirut, was pronounced dead at Rafik Hariri University Hospital on Monday after contracting coronavirus.
Public Health Minister Hamad Hassan extended his condolences over the death of Zeinab Haidar during a news conference. “We lost her as we lost the martyrs of duty, who died in the face of coronavirus.”
The head of Beirut’s RHUH Dr. Firass Abiad, released a statement on Twitter, calling her a martyr – following on from a decision last week by Lebanon’s Cabinet to declare all medical workers who died as a result of coronavirus as so.
“Zeinab is a heroine, one of us, and now she is in a better place,” Abiad said. “May god rest her soul and give her family patience and solace.”
The municipality of the Marjeyoun town of Markaba eulogized Zeinab, 47, on Monday, saying she was a symbol of sacrifice and earned the title of a ‘Martyr’ truthfully.
House Speaker, Nabih Berri, contacted the family of the “martyr nurse” Zeinab, offering condolences on her passing away after succumbing to COVID-19 while carrying out her humanitarian mission.
She’s the second medical worker in the country to die during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last month, a young emergency doctor became Lebanon’s first medic to die of coronavirus. Louay Ismail, 32, passed away at the Nabih Berri Hospital in Nabatieh.
