Iraqi forces have completely liberated the village of Humeira to the east of Mosul city from the militants of the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) terrorist group, Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir Yarallah said on Monday.
Yarallah, commander of “Nineveh We Are Coming” operations, added that the Iraqi flags had been raised on the rooftops of buildings in the village by security forces after killing many ISIL gunmen and destroying equipment that belonged to the group.
“Troops of the ninth brigade have completely freed the village of Humeira located north of the Salamiyah village,” the local Al-Sumaria TV quoted Yarallah as saying.
“Nineveh We Are Coming” command has announced earlier that Orta Kharab village north of Mosul was also liberated and the Iraqi flags have been raised on the rooftops of its buildings as well.
Mosul has been occupied by ISIL since June 2014. The operation to retake the city from the terrorists began on October 17.
