Israeli military sources are raising alarm over a series of recent incidents in southern Lebanon in which Hezbollah Lebanese resistance group has reportedly focused on targeting senior field commanders, prompting calls for a shift in operational conduct, according to Walla News.
The report cites army assessments indicating that Hezbollah has reactivated a surveillance and intelligence-gathering network along the so-called “Yellow Line,” with a particular emphasis on nighttime operations aimed at detecting high-ranking command positions and striking them.
Israeli officials pointed to a string of high-profile incidents that “cannot be ignored,” including the serious wounding of a former 401st Brigade commander in a drone strike, injuries sustained by the deputy commander of the 36th Division in an IED blast, and the killing of a 52nd Battalion commander in a separate drone attack.
Military sources say Hezbollah is leveraging advanced technological capabilities—especially at night—to monitor radio traffic and detect signals associated with senior commanders in the field, describing the effort as requiring a high degree of operational sophistication.
On Friday (June 19), Lt. Col. Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon, the commander of Israeli occupation army’s 401st Armored Brigade’s 52nd Battalion, was killed along with three soldiers in a Hezbollah drone strike that targeted the battalion commander’s tank in the southern Lebanon village of Kfar Tebnit. The attack was described as “catastrophic” by Hebrew media.
Earlier on Thursday (June 18), an Israeli reservist with the 36th Division was killed and 7 occupation service members were injured, including the division’s deputy commander by a Hezbollah explosive device in southern Lebanon.
In late May, Hezbollah targeted Colonel Meir Biderman, Commander of the Israeli army’s 401st Armored Brigade, in a drone strike on the outskirts of Dibil in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah released on Tuesday a detailed account and a striking video of an operation targeting Colonel Meir Biderman, Commander of the Israeli army’s 401st Armored Brigade, on the outskirts of Dibil in southern Lebanon on May 20, 2026.
