Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned an aggressive US attack on several Iranian oil tankers, saying the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces have exercised their inherent right to self-defense by striking US military bases and vessels.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack by the “terrorist US army” on several Iranian oil tankers on Tuesday night, September 8.
The statement said the US military assault on Iranian commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, as a continuation of Washington’s military aggression, naval blockade and economic war against Iran, constitutes an obvious violation of the UN Charter and international law.
“The military aggressive actions of the US against Iranian commercial vessels are not only a dangerous escalation of tensions in the region but also constitute an obvious threat to regional and international peace and security,” the statement said.
In response to the US aggressive actions against Iranian oil tankers, the statement said, the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in accordance with their inherent right to self-defense, carried out defensive strikes against US bases and military facilities located in Jordan, which continue to support US military aggression against Iran, as well as several US vessels involved in the aggression.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing its firm determination to defend Iran’s sovereignty and national interests against the aggressive actions of the US, stresses that the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate to exercise their inherent right to self-defense and will decisively respond in an appropriate manner to any military aggression by the enemy,” the Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry also once again emphasized the responsibility of the UN Security Council and the UN secretary-general to take immediate action in response to the blatant violations of international peace and security resulting from the US aggressive actions against Iran.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Tuesday night that its Aerospace Force carried out a retaliatory missile operation against the US Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan following the US attack on Iranian commercial and oil vessels.
According to the statement, solid- and liquid-fuel ballistic missiles targeted shelters and hangars used for the maintenance, preparation and deployment of F-35, F-16 and F-15 fighter jets, inflicting heavy damage on the US side.
