A mass grave containing the remains of about 100 beheaded civilians has been discovered inside the School of Agriculture on the outskirts of Hammam AL-Alil town south of Mosul city, Iraq’s military media center said in a statement Monday.
“Special teams are being sent to the site to investigate this flagrant crime,” the statement read.
Hammam al-Alil town – about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) south of Mosul – was recaptured from the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) terrorist group after Iraq’s federal police forces and army troops launched an attack to restore the area.
“Gangs of ISIL militants continue to commit crimes against our people,” the statement added.
Beheadings and mass graves have become a hallmark of the ISIL terror group.
