The financial situation in Lebanon is critical, but there is no need to panic, economic expert Kamel Wazneh told Al-Manar Website on Monday.
Commenting on remarks of Central Bank of Lebanon Governor Riad Salameh, Wazneh said he should reassure the Lebanese people in such conditions.
Salameh’s remarks are political more than financial or economic, Wazneh told Al-Manar, adding: “He knows very well the criticality of the financial situation in Lebanon.”
The expert, meanwhile, called on the Banks to open in a bid to reassure people that the economic activity in the country is fine and that their money which they have deposited are safe.
Salameh said Lebanon needs a political solution to the country’s crisis in days to regain confidence and avert a future economic collapse.
He said a CNN headline did not reflect what he said in an interview with the broadcaster. “I am not saying that we are going to have a collapse in a matter of days. I am saying we need to have a solution in a matter of days to regain confidence and avoid collapse in the future,” Salameh said.
The CNN headline on Monday read “Lebanon is ‘days’ away from economic collapse”.
