Minister of Bahrain’s Shura Council and Parliament Affairs Ghanem Al-Buainain denied on Tuesday that Bahrain has been under the occupation of Britain, stressing that his country has been independent since the Al Khalifa family came to Bahrain in 1783.
“Bahrain has been independent since Ahmed Al Fateh came in 1783, British colonialism does not exist, but there was a treatment of protection between Bahrain and Britain’s agreement,” Buainain said.
Buainain’s statement during the Parliament session called a response from MP Majid Al-Majid, who expressed fears of “falsification of history unconsciously.”
However, Buainain responded to Majid and insisted that he did not falsify history.
