Tehran on Monday rejected the idea of negotiations with Washington, stressing that the Iranian nation will emerge victorious in the face of US hostile policies.
Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi dismissed “media speculation” that Iran may hold talks with the US amid rising tensions.
He rejected any link between the Omani foreign minister’s trip to the US and Tehran-Washington row.
“The US or parts of the US may express wishes (about talks), but after the (US) illegal withdrawal from the JCPOA and their hostile policies and push for economic pressure on the Iranian nation, I think there is no such issue (on agenda).”
Qassemi stressed that US President Donald Trump could not be easily trusted “as he is used to generalizing changes he sees in his surroundings on all the issues in the world.”
“Every morning he gets up with the assumption that his presence in the White House provides the world with the chance to be born again and he comes up with new ideas,” the spokesman said, referring to Trump.
“The US has proved to be untrustworthy and a non-reliable partner for any job,” Qassemi said.
Asked about the fear of a military confrontation between Iran and the US, the Iranian official ruled out the possibility of any war, but said that the US administration’s hostile policies would go on.
The Iranian nation will thwart Donald Trump’s plots and emerge victorious in such a battle, he added.
Touching upon the move by Iran to file a lawsuit against the United States for its unilateral abandonment of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, he said that the International Court of Justice is expected to hold a hearing session in September.
“We should wait and see how the lawsuit will be pursued,” Qassemi said.
He stressed that Iran will use all available mechanisms to demand its rights and to prove how committed it is in fulfilling its obligations.
The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman also said that engagements between Iran and Europe, while the US is pressuring allies to follow suit and put the country under sanctions, are still continuing.
“There is some optimism and the engagements in general seem to render positive results,” Qassemi said.
“We hope to witness a new round of cooperation and relations between Iran and the European Union,” he said.
