Bahrain’s prominent opposition group, Al-Wefaq, warned against the deterioration of health of senior Shia cleric, Ayatollah Sheikh Issa Qassem, stressing that the regime in the Gulf island bears responsibility for the issue.
On its website, Al-Wefaq said the group “follows with concern the deterioration of health of Ayatollah Qassem.”
“Authorities bear full responsibility of Ayatollah Qassem’s health deterioration,” the group said noting that the senior cleric has been for long time under house arrest.
Al-Wefaq called for lifting the house arrest of Ayatollah Qassem, who was last year (June 2017) stripped of his citizenship.
