Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei said US enmity with Iran is deep but stressed that all American plots against the Islamic Republic have failed since the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
In a meeting with heads of the three branches of the government, high ranking officials and senior managers on Wednesday, the Leader recalled what he called “the fundamental, deep and constant enmity” of the United States towards the Islamic Republic and said Iran would definitely defeat the US if Iranian officials fulfill their responsibilities.
“Since the beginning of the revolution till today, the US has committed all kinds of animosity to hit the Islamic Republic and has hatched various political, economic, military and propaganda plots against the Islamic Republic. All these actions were aimed at overthrowing the Islamic Republic, a word which is repeated constantly, and is not something new,” Imam Khamenei said.
“All their plots have failed. You can compare the Islamic Republic now to forty years ago, and see that it is moving forward with various capabilities. So, all their plots have failed… just like Tom from the well-known Tom and Jerry cartoon; and they will fail again in the future. We have no doubt in the failure of the enemy; and anyone who is familiar with Islamic thought knows this. The current US president will have no better fate than that of his predecessors, like Bush, the other Neocons, and Reagan; he will be lost in history,” his eminence stressed.
Citing Iran’s experiences of US behavior over the years, Imam Khamenei said the first experience is that Tehran cannot interact with Washington, because it is not committed to its promises, the Leader was quoted by Iranian media as saying.
The second experience was the deep animosity of the US towards Iran, the Leader said, adding that Iran’s nuclear program was not at the heart of US enmity towards the country but the Islamic establishment that has stood up to it.
“The United States wants to eliminate the components of power in the Islamic Republic.”
Imam Khamenei went on to say that history showed flexibility with enemies had made them bolder, stressing only resistance against the US would make it back down.
On relations with Europeans, the Leader said that Iran does not seek confrontation with Europe, but the UK, France and Germany showed that they will follow the US in sensitive issues.
His eminence set out conditions for Tehran to stay in the nuclear deal with world powers, including steps by European banks to safeguard trade with Tehran after the US withdrawal from the agreement.
European powers must protect Iranian oil sales from US pressure and continue buying Iranian crude, and must promise they would not seek new negotiations on Iran’s missile program and regional activities, Imam Khamenei went on to say.
