Senior adviser to the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution in Iran, Ali Akbar Velayati warned against Washington’s plots against the Damascus government and said the US military forces have been dispatched to the eastern Euphrates in a bid to disintegrate Syria.
As he met Jan Kubis, the UN special representative for Iraq, in Tehran on Saturday, Velayati said that the Americans have been trying from seven years ago to occupy Syria and overthrow its legitimate government with the support of some regional players as well as the Israeli and Saudi regimes.
The Iranian official said that the Western-backed terrorists have been defeated now in Syria, noting that the US itself has taken direct actions and dispatched its forces to the eastern Euphrates in a bid to break up the Arab country.
The US said last week it will work, along with a coalition of its allies purportedly fighting the ISIL terrorist group, with US-backed militants of the YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to set up a new 30,000-strong “border security” force.
