Iran’s top negotiator in Syria peace talks Hossein Jaberi-Ansari said that both Tehran and Moscow enjoy productive cooperation on Syria.
Iran and Russia interact within the framework of the Astana talks on Syria, Hossein Jaberi-Ansari said after a meeting held in Sochi on Friday with the Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikhail Bogdanov.
Jaberi-Ansari, who travelled to the Russian Black Sea city for a two-day trilateral meeting between Iran, Russia and Turkey, said the regional questions, critical conditions in Yemen, Libyan issue and the US President Donald Trump’s December 6 decision to move the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Holy Al-Quds were among the issues discussed in the meeting.
Iraq, the situation of Syria and the measures taken by Tehran and Moscow to solve the Syrian crisis were raised during the meeting with the Russian deputy foreign minister, added the official who is also Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs.
Jaberi-Ansari meanwhile, hoped the Sochi meeting, which also concentrates on the fight against terrorism, will lead to taking another step towards halting the Syrian crisis.
The Iranian diplomat also hoped that the inter-Syrian talks and the Syrian Congress of National Dialogue will end with cessation of crisis and holding elections.
Iran, Russia and Turkey — three peace guarantors in Syria — reached an agreement in late 2017 on holding the Syrian Congress of National Dialogue in Sochi.
