Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Thursday that the Iranians will not be fooled by the US game and unmoved by its fake sympathy.
“US changed one elected govt (government) in Iran— in 1953. It has tried a repeat since 79. Iranians not fooled by US game & unmoved by fake sympathy,” the top Iranian diplomat said in a post on his Twitter account on Thursday.
“Faux sympathy for Iranians belied by Trump’s use of fake name for Persian Gulf, calling them terrorist nation & banning them from visiting,” he added.
He also recommended US officials to “lose the ‘standing with the Iranian people’ mantra.”
“They (Iranians) elected their president w/ (with) 6 million more popular votes & 73% turnout. Compare?” he tweeted.
In mid-October, US President Donald Trump unveiled his new strategy for Iran, accusing Tehran of backing terrorism and proliferation of weapons. But he also said the US stands “in total solidarity” with the Iranian people.
