Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani underlined the importance of full implementation of nuclear deal signed between Tehran and world powers.
In a phone conversation on Monday, the two leaders said they support Iraq’s territorial integrity, and regional security.
“During the exchange of views on settling the situation around the Iranian nuclear program the sides noted the importance of full implementation of the JCPOA as an important factor for ensuring regional stability and security,” the Kremlin said in a press service.
Putin and Rouhani expressed readiness to take further joint steps to achieve a long-term settlement in Syria.
“Both sides voiced readiness for further joint efforts to achieve a long-term settlement of the Syrian crisis, in particular by enhancing cooperation between countries-guarantors of the Astana process and promoting political talks under the UN auspices in Geneva,” the press service added.
During the discussion on the situation in Syria, the leaders welcomed the outcome of the sixth international meeting in Astana on September 14-15, namely concerning the formation of four de-escalation zones.
Meanwhile, Iranian media quoted Rouhani as saying: “The territorial integrity of the region and preventing the change in political borders are important issues for the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
“Territorial integrity in the region and no change in political boundaries are considered very important for the Islamic Republic of Iran and we are fully prepared to continue the process of cooperation and coordination for the next Astana summit,” added the president.
Referring to the current developments in Iraq, the Iranian president said “the Islamic Republic of Iran highly regards regional security and preserving Iraq’s territorial integrity and national unity.”
The Russian President Vladimir Putin also reaffirmed Moscow’s determination to develop inclusive relations with Tehran, and described quick implementation of the existing projects, according to IRNA.
