Afghan forces killed 33 gunmen of the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) takfiri group were killed late Monday during air raids over the organization strongholds in Atshin and Koot, east of Afghanistan.
The military operation took place in eastern Nangarhar province, where ISIL militants are currently operating.
A statement by the Afghan army said that 30 ISIL militants, while the rest 3 were killed in Mamandara in Atshin.
Several ISIL weapons and ammunition were destroyed in the raid.
ISIL, classified as terrorist group in many countries, operates primarily in Syria and Iraq but is known to have expanded its activities to Afghanistan, challenging government forces, along with other militant groups, including Taliban.
