Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi arrived in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday for talks with top officials, state media said.
Sisi’s visit comes 24 hours after the UAE brokered a meeting between Fayez al-Sarraj, head of Libya’s UN-backed Government of National Accord, and military strongman Field Marshal Haftar who refuses to recognize the GNA.
State-run news agency WAM said Sisi was accompanied by Egypt’s foreign and investment ministers on his two-day visit to the UAE, one of the main donors of Egypt’s central bank.
Egypt has received more than $20 billion in aid from Gulf countries that supported the overthrow of Sisi’s Islamist predecessor Mohammad Mursi.
