Chairman of Media and Telecommunication Parliamentary Committee MP Ibrahim Al-Moussawi slammed on Sunday a sarcastic program by Lebanese Al-Jadeed Channel in which it offended the women in south Lebanon.
In a statement obtained by Al-Manar, MP Al-Moussawi said: “Since the moment Al-Jadeed TV aired the insulting and ominous sketch against our mothers and sisters in the South and all of Lebanon, the debate flared on social media reaching an intense back-and-forth and frantic, dangerous and negative argument.”
The lawmaker who also represents Hezbollah in the Lebanese Parliament said instead of taking the initiative to contain the situation and admit the mistake and the “grave sin”, Al-Jadeed Channel “engaged in the debate, accumulating more negative charges and continuous insults.
In this regard, MP Al-Moussawi stressed that Al-Jadeed “committed a very heinous, void and unjust act,” considering it “a clear slander against our mothers and sisters, and a pure insult to the entire Lebanese society and every honorable person, since the southern women are mothers, wives and sisters who embody a high and precious value that represents all of our moral and human dignity.”
“Those women deservedly represent an integrated moral system in jihad, patience, sacrifice, honor and loyalty,” the chairman of Media and Telecommunication Parliamentary Committee added.
Meanwhile, MP Al-Moussawi noted that using verses of the Holy Quran in such debate is considered as another insult that makes the situation worse and more dangerous.
He also warned that going ahead with such kinds of debates “provokes the crowds”, especially on social media which constitutes platforms that “accumulate more needless mistakes.”
In this context, the lawmaker called on the Lebanese officials, on top of whom are Minister of Information and the Chairman of the National Media Council, to “take the initiative and address the issue properly by taking the required legal measures to ensure that all broadcasting channels adhere to the laws and moral as well as national obligations that respect dignities and sanctities.”
Earlier on Friday, Al-Jadeed Channel broadcast a sarcastic program that included a sketch on southern women that was seen as a clear offense to this spectrum of the Lebanese society.
