The Association of Banks in Lebanon announced a 3-day closure next week starting from Monday after a number of depositors stormed a several banks branches in various Lebanese areas.
Since October, 2019, the Lebanese banks stopped releasing deposits, forcing the depositors to accept small amounts of US dollars paid every month.
According to the latest reports, seven banks branches have been stormed, and some depositors were given their funds after threatening the managers and employees with guns.
Caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Judge Bassam Mawlawi, called for an emergency meeting of the Central Security Council at 2:00 pm on Friday to discuss the security measures that can be taken in light of the increasing bank storming incidents.
