Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani in a tweet on Friday referred to the 1953 coup in Iran, wondering if the American government will correct its wrong and failed policy towards Iran and respect the Iranian nations’ legitimate rights.
On the anniversary of the 1953 coup d’état in Iran, Kanaani wrote on his Twitter account on Friday that the American government holds the world record for intervening in the internal affairs of other states and directing military attacks and coups against independent countries and governments.
He noted that the 1953 coup d’état against the Iranian national government is a notable example of this dark history.
Kanaani also asked whether the American government would correct its wrong and failed policy toward Iran and respect the Iranians’ legitimate rights.
Dr. Mohammad Mosaddeq was the popular prime minister who nationalized the Iranian oil industry, which was considered a threat to British and American interests. He was eventually toppled in a US-UK-led coup on 19 August 1953.
