The Lebanese caretaker displaced minister Issam Sharafeddine met on Monday with the Syrian minister of local administration Hussein Makhlouf to discuss the return of the Syrian refugees file.
After the meeting, Sharafeddine said that the meeting with Makhlouf was positive, stressing that Lebanon respects the Syrian refugees.
In details, the Lebanese minister said that Syria has approved all the items of Lebanon’s plan set for the return of the Syrian refugees to their country.
For his part, the Syrian minister said that Damascus is ready to welcome all the Syrian refugees, highlighting the amnesty law issued by President Bashar Assad.
Makhlouf also asked the United Nations to play a vital role in the refugees file in order to facilitate their return, knowing that Syria has finished repairing the infrastructure in several Syrian cities.
Lebanon has been overburdened by around 2 million Syrians who were displaced during the crisis in their country. To exert pressures on the Syrian government, the United States and allies have prevented the refugees return, which left Lebanon with the an unprecedented crisis that exacerbated due to the refugees.
