On the eve of electoral silence, House Speaker, Nabih Berri, addressed the Lebanese from Msayleh marking multiple anniversaries including Imam al-Sadr’s oath in the city of Tyre, the fall of May 17 agreement, and Liberation Day.
In his statement, Speaker Berri affirmed that Amal Movement and the national duo were “a system of resistance, dignity and pride, sacrifice, development, victory, liberation, the fall of May 17th agreement, and the transition of Lebanon from the Israeli to the Arab era.”
The House Speaker pointed out that some people, and out of miscalculation, had been deliberately using Beirut Port blast for the sake of of their electoral rhetoric.
“They’ve been employing hateful sectarian incitement, slander, and lies to target Amal Movement as well as its history, path, achievements, and alliances,” Berri said.
“This defamation campaign raises suspicion and reveals those people’s true intentions concerning Lebanon in general, and the national duo and Amal Movement in particular,” Berri explained.
He also stressed that the alliance between the Amal Movement and Hezbollah was neither a sectarian one to garner power over other sects, nor an electoral alliance to win the majority of votes. “It’s is a solid alliance,” affirmed Berri.
“The resistance still represents an urgent national need alongside the Lebanese army to protect and deter the Israeli aggression,” the House Speaker added.
“We reject, in the name of the Hope and Loyalty lists’ candidates, to accept any financial and economic reform plan that does not restore depositors’ rights in full,” avowed Berri.
On the issue of border demarcation, the House Speaker stressed that “every cubic meter of gas and oil on the other side of the southern Lebanese maritime borders is a Palestinian right usurped and occupied by Zionists.”
“The framework agreement remains the valid mechanism for accomplishing demarcation, which gives Lebanon the right to invest all of its wealth in the sea without concession, compromise, normalization, or barter,” Berri explained.
As for the electoral deadline, Speaker Berri finally called for “voting massively and without delay to confirm adherence to the resistance as an approach and culture, and in support of its weaponry alongside the Lebanese Army.”
