Iranian President Sheikh Hassan Rouhani told the Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem on Saturday, that Iran welcomes any peace initiative in Syria.
Rouhani received the Syrian delegation to Tehran and congratulated Syrian government success in evacuation of terrorism from Aleppo and the modest stability hammered out by Turkey, Russia, and Iran good offices.
“The track walked by the terrorists would lead to destruction; the Aleppo success communicated this fact to the world as well as Syrian public; now that the country is in road to stability, terrorists would grasp the opportunity to recover and receive fresh weapons and other logistics from their supporters; this should not be allowed; we are very hopeful to see that Syrian government restores full stability to the country, thus finishing with saving Syrian territorial integrity when the smoke clears,” Sheikh Rouhani said.
The Iranian President reiterated Tehran’s support for the government in Damascus and its public support, stating that “negotiations with moderate opposition should hinge upon Syrian government rule over Syria and upon stability for the nation at large.”
“Iran works with Russia and Syria in coordination of future plans; the upcoming event in Kazakhstan will definitely be an open path to ultimate peace in Syria,” he told Moallem and his delegation.
For his part, Moallem hailed Iran’s support in keeping the moral of the Syrian government forces and conveyed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regards for such support for Sheikh Rouhani and the nation.
Moreover, he expressed beliefs that Iran, Syria, and Russia should work more closely in tackling terrorism, with Iran occupying the center stage in Damascus architecture of foreign policy.
