President Bashar Al-Assad voiced Syria’s readiness to help Lebanon on several levels.
In a meeting with a Lebanese delegation on Sunday, President Assad stressed that relations between the two countries should not be affected by changes or circumstances, noting that efforts should be exerted to strengthen ties.
“Syria will stand by Lebanese people and support them at various levels,” Assad told the Lebanese delegation headed by chairman of the Lebanese Democratic Party Talal Arslan.
The Syrian president considered that members of the delegation – which includes clergymen, and dignitaries of Druze sect as well as other political and economic figures – represent the true face of Lebanon.
“You represent the majority of the Lebanese who believe in the necessity and importance of the relationship with Syria,” Assad told the delegation as quoted by SANA news agency.
For his part, Arslan affirmed that Syria taught the whole world a lesson of non-subjection to the global colonialism, pointing out that the suffering of the Lebanese and Syrians is because of neocolonialism that seeks to deprive the rights and dignity of nations.
He stressed that whoever is at enmity with Syria is at enmity with Lebanon and civilized Arabism.
Sheikh Nasreddin Al-Gharib, Sheikh Aql of Druze sect in Lebanon, said that the delegation came to Syria to congratulate Damascus on its triumphs over terrorism.
He said noted that no one was able to break the strong will of the Syrian people.
The head of the Arab Unification Party, Wiam Wahhab pointed out to the importance of Syria’s role and its position in the region, considering that the Arabs will not be able to find a place among the regional powers if they do not return to Syria.
