Member of ‘Loyalty to resistance’ parliamentary bloc, MP Hasan Fadlallah issued on Wednesday a statement in which he indicated that despite the enormity of the crimes of the basic commodities monopolists who were caught red-handed, none of them was held accountable, jailed, fined and prevented from practicing the profession.
MP Fadlallah pointed out that the Lebanese laws also stipulates doubling the penalty whenever the crime is repeated.
The Lebanese lawmaker added that the majority of the citizens cast doubts on the political coverage which protects those monopolists from the prosecution, wondering whether the judicial authorities need more pieces of evidence to arrest them.
Mp Fadlallah stressed that admitting leniency in dealing with those monopolists and the major firms which hoard the subsidized commodities encourages them to continue committing their crimes against the Lebanese people, emphasizing that only raiding such criminals does not deter them and restore the rule of the law across the nation.
It is worth noting that the Lebanese caretaker health minister, Dr. Hamad Hasan, raided late Monday in several areas medical drug depots hoarding huge number of items despite the shortage of medicines in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division on Tuesday announced via its “Twitter” account that “the ISF’s Information Division has seized in Zahle 38 tanks full of gasoline, with each tank’s capacity estimated at approximately 50,000 liters,” adding that the tanks belong to a gas station owner.
