The European Union will host the fifth international donor conference for Syria on March 29-30, the European Commission said on Monday.
A spokesman for the European Commission announced the move, noting that the conference will take place online this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Despite the current pressing challenges, the European Union is not forgetting the plight of Syrian people,” the spokesman told a briefing.
“That is why we will host this year again the Brussels conference on supporting the future of Syria and the region. This year, the fifth edition will take place on March 29 and 30, and due to coronavirus pandemic, it will take place in virtual format,” the spokesperson added, as quoted by Sputnik news agency.
The United Nations is seeking humanitarian funding for the next few years to help the more than 11 million Syrians in need of emergency assistance after nearly a decade of war.
