The Presidency’s Information Office issued a statement on Saturday, clarifying the position of the President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, regarding the issue of exempting the Director General of Customs, Badri Daher, from his duties and placing him at the disposal of the Prime Minister.
“President of the Republic did not refuse to sign the decree on the exemption of Mr. Daher, but he requested, in accordance with the principle of equality, to issue all decrees related to the employees concerned with the decision of the Council of Ministers on 10/8/2020 containing the approval to place all employees of the first category who are sentenced or who will be arrested, at the disposal of Prime Minister, with exemption from their duties etc,” the statement said.
“Employees who are arrested according to the laws and regulations in force, are legally suspended from performing their duties, and therefore cannot be assigned to new tasks,” the statement added.
“There are employees other than Mr. Daher of the first and second categories who are judicially imprisoned and no administrative action has been taken against them,” the statement concluded.
