Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdullatif Derian, delivered the sermon of Eid Al-Fitr at the Mohamed Al-Amin Mosque, in the Downtown Beirut, in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Hassan Diab and MPs Fouad Makhzoumi and Adnan Traboulsi.
“The month of Ramadan this year was very harsh for all people due to the Corona epidemic, the economic and financial collapse, and the difficult social and living conditions,” Derian said in his sermon.
Mufti Derian held the political forces, the central bank, and the banking system responsible for the country’s financial collapse, and asked: Who is responsible for the bankruptcy of the state, and for the destruction of the citizens ’livelihood? Where did all these billions that should have been spent on safeguarding the interests of citizens, on supplying them with electricity and water, addressing the waste crisis, improving communications, promoting agriculture, industry and services, and why did the public debt accumulate ninety billion dollars Of which fifty billion were wasted on permanent power cuts, then who is responsible for holding depositors ’money?
In this context, the Mufti also called on the government to “speed up taking firm measures and stop the collapse of the national currency, because people are tired, they are unable to secure their livelihood with dignity, and they cannot get their savings whenever they want.”
Derian stressed that society “does not accept violating the constitution, nor marginalize the prime minister or infringe upon the powers of the prime minister, not because it ignores the hierarchy of constitutional institutions, and the rights of only one of the main components in Lebanon but because violating the constitution creates a political crisis,” pointing out Lebanon has always been a pioneer in the coexistence of Christian Islam, dialogue and cooperation for peace and security.
He concluded by saying: “Our economic crisis and our national crisis, you should not distract us from the performance of the message of goodness, hope and initiative.”
