Minister of Education, Tarek Al-Majzoub, on Friday said in a press conference that the academic year would resume in schools across Lebanon from May 28, 2020 to the end of July, 2020, after which students will take a two-month summer break for the new academic year to begin in October, 2020.
“The return to schools will be accompanied by health and psychological measures, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization,” said Majzoub.
He pointed out that it was possible for universities, technical institutes, and official exam classes to teach six days a week.
However, the Minister of Education made it clear that distance learning would remain in practice until the end of May for elementary 1, 2, and 3, (grades 1,2,3), after which the summer vacation begins.
As for the rest of the classes, the remaining part of the academic will be delivered “part-time” as of June 11, 2020, after the revision and reduction of the required curricula for each class.
Majzoub also explained that Brevet (grade 9) students would be given certificates “provided that they complete the academic year from May 28 to the end of July.”
“With regard to free official exam applications, examinations will not be canceled,” the Minister explained, announcing that further statements will be issued next week for updates.
“Health is the ministry’s priority, but we have to gradually return to work, and we will do our best to make the return to school as smooth and safe as possible for everyone,” the Education Minister concluded.
