Lebanon’s newly elected President Michel Aoun received numerous phone calls from regional and international leaders who congratulated him on winning the presidential vote.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in a telephone conversation with President Aoun, said Tehran will keep its unwavering support for Lebanon’s government and nation as well as the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah.
Rouhani also said the election of former general Michel Aoun as Lebanon’s new president was the manifestation of peace and the triumph of democracy and a victory for all the country’s political parties.
President Michel Aoun received a phone call from the Syrian President Bashar Assad who congratulated him on his election as Lebanon’s president.
Egypt’s presidency felicitated, in a statement on Monday, the Lebanese people on the election of General Michel Aoun as president of the Lebanese republic.
“This election is an important step to anchor the concept of the national state with its institutions, and it reflects the keenness of the different Lebanese political forces on prevailing the nation’s best interest, realizing political stability, and ending presidential vacuum,” the statement read.
According to media reports, Qatar’s emir and the French President Francois Hollande called General Aoun to congratulate him on his election as president.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif congratulated on his Twitter account all the Lebanese on the election of General Michel Aoun as President of the Republic.
German Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, congratulated in a statement on Monday General Michel Aoun over his election as a president.
Special Envoy of the Russian President, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov, contacted on Monday MP Amal Abu Zaid, to extend felicitations on the election of General Michel Aoun as the president of the Lebanese republic.
EU High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini said that the election of President Aoun is crucial for Lebanon’s future.
Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations addressed in a statement on Monday the Lebanese people, felicitating them on the election of Michel Aoun as new head of State.
