Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei says that the Iranian delegation in the Switzerland talks is seeking to ensure that the US follows through on its commitments over the long term.

Iran considers the establishment of a comprehensive ceasefire on all fronts as the key part of these negotiations, Baqaei told IRNA on Sunday.

A one-day session is planned, featuring bilateral meetings with Pakistani and Qatari mediators in the morning, followed by quadrilateral talks in the afternoon involving Iran, the United States, Qatar, and Pakistan, he added.

Referring to the signing of the MoU between Tehran and Washington, Baqaei said from the very first moments, Iran has pursued the implementation of this document because the implementation of any agreement is more important than its signing, adding that the diplomatic process only yields results when the commitments of both parties are put into practice.

Switzerland meeting shows Iran’s seriousness in pursuing the implementation of the other party’s commitments, he added, reiterating that Tehran has no intention of merely signing a document and expecting the other side to automatically implement it.

This meeting is focused on the implementation of the agreement, and according to paragraph 13 of the MoU, the start of negotiations to reach a final agreement depends on the implementation of five specific clauses, including the first clause of this document regarding the cessation of war on all fronts, especially in Lebanon, he stressed.

This clause has not yet been fully implemented, and the Israeli regime continues to violate its commitments in Lebanon; an issue that will be one of the main axes of today’s talks, he reiterated.

Some other clauses of the agreement require preparatory and executive measures, including the release of Iran’s frozen assets and the issuance of necessary permits for Iran’s oil sales, Baqaei noted.

Elaborating on the meeting’s structure, he noted that while indirect messaging between Iran and the US via mediators has been ongoing, today’s session will bring together representatives from all four countries in one room.

Bürgenstock Hotel in Switzerland will host the first meeting of high-level Iranian and American delegations in a few hours, following the signing of the Islamabad MoU.

The Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker and head of the negotiating team Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, arrived at Zurich Airport around 10 PM local time on Saturday night.

Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Ali Bagheri Deputy for International Affairs of the Supreme National Security Council Secretariat, Abdolnaser Hemmati Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company, Hamid Bovard, Kazem Gharibabadi Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, and Esmaeil Baqaei, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson are accompanying Ghalibaf on this trip.

On the American side, Steve Witkoff, the US President’s special envoy, and Jared Kushner are present in Switzerland, and Vice President J.D. Vance has also traveled to Switzerland to join the talks.

Prior to his departure, Vance announced that the meetings may last one to two days and will address issues related to the implementation of the agreement, a ceasefire in Lebanon, and Iran’s nuclear program.

Representatives from the mediating countries are also present in Switzerland. Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, had previously met with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis in Bürgenstock to discuss the latest developments following the Iran-US agreement.
