Araghchi: Claim about Iran Plans to Attack US “Sheer Lie Aimed at Justifying Misadenture Engineered by Israel”

The claim that Iran was planning on attacking the US or US Forces, whether preventively or preemptively, is a sheer and utter lie, Iranian foreign minister posted via his X account.

The sole purpose of that lie is to justify Operation Epic Mistake, a misadventure engineered by Israel and paid for by ordinary Americans, Abbas Araghchi added.

UN Chief: Iran’s Undoubtedly Has Right to Defend Itself

Araghchi received a phone conversation from António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, aimed at discussing the latest developments following the attack and military action by the United States and ‘Israel’ against Iran.

During the call, Iran’s foreign minister outlined various dimensions of the aggressive attacks and war crimes committed by the United States and ‘Israel’. He emphasized that civilian locations—including schools, hospitals, residential areas, as well as historical buildings and cultural sites—were targeted during the strikes, actions he said constitute a clear violation of international law and the fundamental principles of humanitarian law.

Referring to the humanitarian consequences and the extensive damage caused by the attacks, he called for a clear and firm condemnation of these actions by the international community and responsible institutions.

Araghchi also stressed Iran’s inherent right to defend itself against what he described as an imposed war. He stated that Iran had previously warned all relevant parties in the region and beyond that if the United States carried out military action against Iran, the country would inevitably target all US facilities and bases in the region, a development that could lead to the expansion of the conflict across the wider region.

He added that such actions would be carried out within the framework of the right to self-defense and in accordance with recognized principles of international law. The Islamic Republic of Iran, he said, considers the defense of its security and the lives of its citizens a fundamental and non-negotiable responsibility.

The Iranian foreign minister also referred to the responsibilities of the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security, stressing the strong expectation of the Iranian government and people that the UN Secretary-General and the United Nations Security Council adopt stronger and more responsible positions in clearly condemning the aggression and the actions carried out.

He warned that silence or insufficient responses to such actions could contribute to continued instability and escalating tensions in the region.

The UN Secretary General, in the same phone call, referred to the clear and evident nature of the attacks carried out by the United States and ‘Israel’ against Iran, stressing the importance of respecting international law and avoiding further escalation. He stated that there is no doubt regarding Iran’s right to defend itself.

Guterres also emphasized the need to prevent the conflict from expanding and to reduce its humanitarian and security consequences in the region.
