Iran Warns US: Regional Bases Accessible Targets if Attacked

Iran foreign minister Abbas Araghchi

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned on Saturday that any open US aggression against Iran would trigger retaliatory strikes on American military bases in the region. Speaking at the Al Jazeera Forum in Doha, Araghchi stated, “If the US strikes Iran, we will attack American bases in the region as they are accessible targets.” He clarified that Tehran would not attack neighboring countries’ soil, only locations housing US forces.

Araghchi emphasized that the Iranian Armed Forces are fully prepared to respond decisively to any hostile action. He reiterated Iran’s firm stance on its defense and nuclear programs, declaring that its missile program is purely defensive and not negotiable. The Foreign Minister also asserted Iran’s “inalienable right” to enrich uranium, a process he said must continue, rejecting any concept of zero-percent enrichment as outside the scope of talks.

Regarding the recent negotiations in Muscat, Araghchi described them as a “good beginning” but cautioned that a long path lies ahead to build trust. He confirmed the talks with the US. were indirect and limited solely to the nuclear issue. Tehran insists any agreement must provide tangible economic benefits and recognizes its legal right to enrich uranium on its own soil—a stated red line in the negotiations.
