Fadlallah: Lebanon’s State Lacks Sovereignty, and Targeting the Resistance Is an American Decision

MP Hassan Fadlallah, a member of the “Loyalty to the Resistance” parliamentary bloc, affirmed that the movement is not challenging the state and does not seek to challenge anyone in Lebanon. For those positioned in the resistance against the enemy with ‘Israel’ serving as that enemy having such an adversary is more than enough, he said. He emphasized that they are not seeking conflicts, polemics, or confrontations, nor do they wish to replace or supplant anyone. Rather, they are in a defensive posture; they are being targeted, and their very fate is threatened by this Israeli enemy. Because they have yet to find a state in Lebanon capable of shouldering its responsibilities, they have taken on this responsibility themselves and are making these sacrifices.

MP Fadlallah made his remarks during a commemorative ceremony held by Hezbollah for the martyrs of the Islamic Resistance in the southern town of Tibnine, attended by various local figures, religious scholars, families of the martyrs, and a large number of residents.

‘A State Directed From Abroad’

MP Fadlallah observed that Lebanon currently lacks a state that possesses true autonomy; instead, it is a state directed from abroad with some parties steering it via WhatsApp and others via telephone. The decisions it makes some under duress are merely external dictates aimed at stripping the country of its sources of strength, following the failure of both war and blockade to eliminate the resistance. He noted that those who hoped certain internal proxies could dismantle the resistance and its capabilities under the guise of the “exclusivity of arms” or the “exclusivity of the decision for war and peace” resting solely with the state are deluded.

He challenged them: “Give us a state prove that you are a state before you speak of the state’s rights. No one denies that the state has rights, but it also bears responsibilities and duties.”

MP Fadlallah stated that certain figures within the ruling establishment have taken unjust measures and issued invalid decisions, acting under direct American diktat. Ultimately, these American-Israeli demands aim to sabotage the country, as they will never succeed in bending the arm of the resistance or breaking the will of the people. The resistance, he said, is in fact the people themselves a segment that constitutes more than half of the nation. When we speak of the “resistance community,” we are not referring solely to Shia Muslims but to a much broader society. Even though there is an attempt to target our religious identity—and, by extension, everyone who belongs to this cherished community such targeting will not weaken us; rather, it fosters greater cohesion, unity, and steadfastness.

Consequently, he continued, we are not confronting the state and its legitimate decisions; instead, we are dealing with certain individuals in power who submit to external American tutelage and carry out its demands. This tutelage extends its reach into the judiciary, security apparatus, fiscal policy, economic measures, and official appointments a reality well known to everyone in the country. When we sit down with these figures, they often claim that a particular ambassador has exerted pressure, or that someone from abroad has made a call, insisting that they lack the capacity to withstand such pressure and must therefore take certain steps to avert it.

MP Fadlallah emphasized that there can be no compromises when it comes to principles. Regarding the resistance, there is absolutely no room for leniency toward any attempt to target any of the components of its strength. Our only demand of certain figures within the ruling authority is that they refuse to yield to dictates. We offered them counsel out of a genuine concern for civil peace, stability, and the preservation of our country a country for which we have sacrificed our most precious blood.

However, this concern should never be exploited as a pretext for taking certain actions; there are red lines that cannot be overlooked or tolerated. This is a matter that concerns our very destiny, our continued presence on our own land, our future, and our partnership in this nation. When our existence in Lebanon is threatened, it is only natural that we stand firm and confront the challenge.

‘Why Are You Steering the Country Toward Internal Confrontation?’

MP Fadlallah questioned the ruling authority: “Why are you steering the country under American pressure, specifically from the U.S. Secretary of State toward an internal confrontation? Who stands to benefit from this? Does it serve your interests, or the interests of the current administration and the government? Does it help to incite tension and provoke the public in this manner? And why is there such insistence on fostering the conditions for an internal conflict?”

He added: “We do not recognize the decisions taken against the resistance on March 2nd. While some sought to find solutions, certain elements within the ruling authority acting as if they were being controlled by remote—intervened. When a truck was intercepted and its contents inspected, it was claimed that it was carrying weapons. And what does that signify?” It is only natural for the resistance to transport weaponry and for it to reach the front lines. As for how or by what route it is transported—that involves specific procedures. After all, how else could the resistance prepare itself and build its capabilities? How else could it fight this enemy—with sacks of potatoes?

He continued: “You may have stumbled upon something, but does that justify wrecking the country? Does it warrant such a level of incitement—from certain official figures all the way to various political parties and factions? Were it not for our exercise of the utmost wisdom and awareness, our country would be in a very different—and far worse—place. We are the ones most concerned for our nation’s well-being, and we shall remain so; however, this does not grant anyone—whether in or out of power—the license to overstep their bounds.”

‘The Equation in Lebanon Is Set to Change’

MP Fadlallah added: “Therefore, from this platform in Tibnine—a place sanctified by martyrs—we offer some advice to certain domestic official agencies and the individuals within them, those whom certain factions in power are manipulating into taking specific actions, or who are being contacted by American or regional officials to push for judicial or security-related decisions. Our advice is this: the situation in Lebanon will not remain as it is; the equation in Lebanon is set to change, and the current power structure will not endure. We are exercising patience and restraint, but things will change. We advise them to calm down, and we urge no one to tie their own fate to the fate of this current authority.”

MP Fadlallah stated: “There is a competition among certain agencies to take specific actions, with the aim of currying favor with the U.S. administration and the U.S. embassy. We tell them: this competition will not serve you, nor will targeting us, our resistance, or our community. This resistance remains steadfast, enduring, and ongoing; no power on earth can sway us from our principles.”

MP Fadlallah further noted that there are American and Israeli media outlets—along with some regional media and local proxies—whose function is to spread rumors, concoct scenarios, and fabricate news. Their goal is to tarnish the pristine image of the sacrifices made by these martyrs and by our people.
