Iranian lawmakers voted on Sunday to confirm Mehrdad Akhlaghi Ketabchi as the country’s new Minister of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics, following a parliamentary vote of confidence.
The confirmation came during an open session of the Iranian Parliament, where legislators reviewed Akhlaghi’s plans and qualifications before casting their votes.
Akhlaghi succeeds Major General Aziz Nasirzadeh, the previous defense minister, who was martyred during what Iranian authorities describe as criminal attacks by the United States and the Zionist regime.
