Hezbollah Commemorative event in the city of Nabatieh on Sunday honoring those who were elevated to martyrdom during the ‘Al-Asf al-Ma’kul’ battle in recognition of their sacrifices and to perpetuate their memory. The event was attended by MP Ali Fayyad (member of the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc), Ali Da’oun (Hezbollah official for the Second Jabal Amel Region), Ali Kanso (representing MP Mohammad Raad), Abbas Fakhr El-Din (Mayor of Nabatieh), families of the martyrs, prominent figures, and a large crowd of local residents.
The ceremony began with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by two anthems.
‘Nabatieh Stands with the Choice of Resistance’
MP Ali Fayyad then delivered a speech on behalf of Hezbollah, stating: “From Nabatieh—the historic and contemporary capital of Jabal Amel and the city of Imam Hussein (AS); the city that raised the slogan ‘Far be it from us to accept humiliation’ and offered up its finest sons; the city that reaffirms its loyalty to this blood shed in resistance and declares its choice to resist the enemy, liberate the land, and stand firm and steadfast in the face of that enemy, while rejecting all those who collude with it or place their bets on it.”
“This is a time for clear choices, free from ambiguity, confusion, or equivocation. We are in a phase where there is no alternative to steadfastness and the defense of our existence, our land, our homeland, our sovereignty, our freedom, and our state.”
“Nabatieh stands with the choice of resistance against the enemy and with a state that stands by its people—defending and protecting them, providing refuge and shelter for the displaced, and bringing reconstruction, development, and stability to destroyed villages. It is a state that makes liberation its supreme goal, without compromising sovereignty or rights.”
‘Their Legacy Is Inexhaustible’
“We honor the memory of our heroic martyrs—who departed in the course of martyrdom—cherishing each one of them for their heroism, contributions, and sacrifices,” Fayyad said.
“Their legacy is inexhaustible, mirroring this community’s capacity for steadfastness, its adherence to principles and convictions, and its defiance of hardships and dangers. Indeed, this resilience has astonished the world; for the very actions taken to alienate the people from the Resistance and turn them against it have only deepened their commitment and unity—despite the suffering, pain, and sacrifices.”
“We demonstrate our loyalty to our martyrs, their families, and our community—including the displaced and those whose homes were destroyed—through our unwavering resolve to liberate and safeguard our land. We are committed to sparing no effort to return them to their homes and livelihoods, to rebuild what was destroyed, and to provide full support for their shelter, home repairs, and basic needs.”
‘An All-Out War on Multiple Fronts’
Fayyad said this resolve comes “while confronting an all-out war and a campaign of destructive annihilation waged against us on multiple fronts by the Israeli enemy—an enemy that has occupied our land, destroyed our villages, and killed our people with American backing, regional cover, and internal collusion.”
“Given the enemy’s nature and composition, we expect nothing from it but criminality, killing, and expansionism; likewise, we expect nothing from the Americans but the provision of military support and political cover.”
Lebanese Authority’s Performance ‘Dangerous and Catastrophic’
However, the Hezbollah MP reserved his sharpest criticism for the Lebanese authority, whose performance—”both in negotiations and on the domestic front—has been dangerous and catastrophic.”
“It did not merely acquiesce to the consequences of the aggression, shy away from confronting it, or leave the Lebanese people exposed to slaughter and devastation; rather,
its policies and stances actively aligned with the aggression, seeking to translate its outcomes into the domestic arena and effectively acting as an extension of it,” he said.
“It treated the Resistance as an outlaw entity, aggressively escalated tensions with it and its support base, and set itself the goal of uprooting the Resistance, politically encircling it, and eliminating it as a political phenomenon within the Lebanese landscape.”
‘Absolute Subservience to the Americans’
“Delusionally believing itself to be in a position of dominance, the authority bases its policies and stances on absolute subservience to the Americans and appeasement of the Israelis,” Fayyad continued.
“Consequently, it did not stop at taking decisions against the Resistance; it went further, expelling the Iranian ambassador and halting Iranian flights. It is actively working to hem us in within state institutions, weaken us, and oust us from those very institutions.”
“Most dangerous of all in the authority’s stance is its reliance on the Israelis to complete the task of destroying the Resistance. It hopes this will ensure the success of its political agenda—altering the balance of power in Lebanon and realigning the country with alliances that run counter to its social fabric and the prerequisites for its stability.”
“Not content with all this, the authority has also begun to tamper with delicate internal balances and the relationships between the country’s various constituent groups. Given the actions of certain parties, the Taif Agreement faces a genuine threat, as there are those seeking to bypass or undermine it and tamper with the balances it established. Such behavior betrays a profound misjudgment and misunderstanding, reflecting ill-conceived and dangerous gambles.”
‘American Failure, Israeli Impotence, Iranian Constancy’
Amid all this, Fayyad said, the ruling authority has failed to grasp the most consequential factor—one capable of reshaping the entire balance of power in Lebanon and beyond: “the regional landscape and the power dynamics resulting from Iran’s steadfastness in the face of the US-Israeli war.”
“This resilience has brought the entire region to the threshold of a new era defined by three key features: American failure, Israeli impotence, and Iranian constancy.”
“We are witnessing a region in flux, poised for a new regional order where power dynamics are interconnected—spanning from the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab Strait to southern Lebanon. Consequently, a broader perspective necessitates a different understanding of the trajectory of the Lebanese arena.”
‘Chance After Chance, Nothing but Failure’
“The Lebanese authority has been given chance after chance, yet the result has been nothing but an accumulation of failure and setbacks. Israeli encroachment knows no bounds; it disregards any policy of appeasement in its pursuit of expansionist ambitions. Yesterday’s Israeli targeting of the Lebanese Army in Deir Mimas serves as clear proof that the concessions made by the authorities mean nothing to Israel; instead, they are met with further targeting and escalation.”
“The time has come for these authorities to abandon their misguided bets, stop waiting on Israeli elections, acknowledge the failure of their chosen path, and reconsider their policies. They must be transparent with the Lebanese people about the current state of affairs and restore the priority of internal Lebanese consensus in confronting the occupation and Israeli aggression.”
