Imam Khamenei fell martyr on February 28 following what Iranian officials have described as unprovoked American-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic, marking a dramatic escalation in regional tensions.
The farewell ceremonies at the Grand Mosalla are scheduled to continue through Sunday, with the main funeral procession through the streets of Tehran planned for Monday. The body of the late Leader will then be transported to the holy city of Qom for funeral rites on Tuesday, before a final journey to Mashhad on Thursday, where he will be laid to rest at the sacred shrine of Imam Reza one of Shia Islam’s holiest sites.
Organizers have also announced that special farewell and funeral ceremonies will be held in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala on Wednesday, reflecting the profound regional and sectarian significance of the late Leader’s legacy.
On Friday, world leaders, dignitaries, and religious figures from numerous countries convened in Tehran to pay official tributes, underscoring the global stature of the martyred Leader and the geopolitical implications of his passing.
The unprecedented scale of public mourning with crowds described as some of the largest in Iran’s modern history stands as a powerful testament to the deep connection between the Iranian people and their late Leader, whose decades-long stewardship of the Islamic Revolution shaped the nation’s political and spiritual identity.
