The farewell ceremony for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei has commenced at Tehran’s Grand Imam Khomeini Mosalla, drawing vast crowds of mourners in a historic manifestation of national unity.
Beginning in the early hours of Saturday, the gathering has turned the Mosalla into a scene of profound grief and devotion, as millions assemble to bid a final farewell to the martyred Leader.
Mourners carried flowers, the late Leader’s signature koufiya, and portraits of both the late Leader and the current Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Mujtaba Khamenei.
The headquarters overseeing the commemoration of the martyred Leader’s ascension announced that the ceremony will continue through Sunday at the same venue.
The main funeral procession in Tehran is scheduled for Monday.
Funeral ceremonies will also be held Tuesday in Qom’s Hazrat Masoumeh Shrine and Jamkaran Mosque.
Special farewell and funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader will also take place in the holy Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala on Wednesday, according to the organizers.
The last ceremony will be held Thursday in Mashhad, where the Leader will be laid to rest at the Imam Reza Shrine.
Earlier on Friday, official tributes were paid by heads of state, dignitaries from various countries, and religious leaders from around the world in Tehran.
