Russia Blames Terrorists for Disrupting Syria Peace Plan

Russia condemned attacks carried by armed groups in Syria, saying they were aimed at ruining peace plan sponsored by UN envoy Kofi Annan.

Russia condemned attacks carried by armed groups in Syria, saying they were aimed at ruining peace plan sponsored by UN envoy Kofi Annan.

Russia "decisively condemns the new terrorist sorties”, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement, referring to bombings in Idlib and an attack on Syria's central bank on Monday.
The attacks "in essence unleashed a large-scale campaign to destabilize the situation and disrupt ... Annan's plan", it said.

The ministry noted that the attacks were in coincidence with the arrival of the Norwegian General Robert Mood who was appointed as head of the international observer mission to Syria in the framework of implementing Annan's plan.
"There is no doubt that those who oppose the peaceful efforts to stabilize the situation in the country are behind the terrorist acts, and that Annan's plan which stipulates for stopping bloodshed and launching an inter-Syrian dialogue contradicts their intentions to change the political regime in Syria by force", the statement added.

On Wednesday, twenty two Syrian troops were killed in more than attack carried by armed groups.
Fifteen troops, including two colonels, were killed in a dawn ambush in the northern Aleppo province. Clashes near Damascus also killed other seven soldiers.
