Palestinian Legislative Council member Mariam Farhat, 64, died of illness Sunday in the Gaza Strip.

Farhat was a member of the Palestinian Change and Reform Parliamentary bloc, related to Hamas. She is a mother of three martyrs and of an ex-detainee who spent 11 years in Israeli prisons.

The Palestinian MP is a popular figure in the besieged strip, as she was known for her strong adherence to the resistance path.

One of the most significant stances for Farhat was when she bid farewell to her son, martyr Mohammad, before he took off to carry out a self-sacrifice operation against occupation forces south Gaza in 2002.

Islamic Jihad and Maryam FarhatMoreover, Farhat had constantly urged Palestinians to hold on to the armed resistance path without fear or boredom, and one of her famous quotes was: “One of the best days of my life was when Mohammad (her son) possessed a weapon and brought it to me to make me happy.”

The Islamic Jihad Movement had announced the death of Mariam Farhat in a statement it issued and was published by “Palestine Today”.
