Iran Summons Turkey’s Charge d’Affaires

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman announced Iran has summoned Turkey’s charge d’affaires to denounce Turkish president’s recent improper remarks on the Islamic Republic’s regional policy.

Erdogan earlier accused Iran of pursuing expansion of its dominance and of trying to interfere in the Middle East and in other countries’ affairs, which erupted heavy criticism inside Iran.

Marzieh Afkham stressed Iran needs a clear and convincing response on the recent comments by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

She also added that Iran’s strategic approach towards the region and its neighbors is based on peace, stability and cooperation on the basis of mutual respect, underlying that Iran and Turkey benefit the potential to achieve this goal.

The Turkish president earlier accused Iran of pursuing expansion of its dominance and of trying to interfere in the Middle East and in other countries’ affairs, which erupted heavy criticism inside Iran.

Following the statement by some Iranian conservative MPs that Erdogan's upcoming visit had to be canceled, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister in Consular Affairs Hassan Qashqawi said there has been no change so far in Turkish President’s planned visit to Tehran which is due in early April.
