Aoun: I Hope We Can Reach National Consensus Government

The leader of Free Patriotic Movement hoped the Lebanese parties can reach a national consensus government, stressing that his party would facilitate the formation of the new government.

The leader of Free Patriotic Movement, MP Michel Aoun, hoped the Lebanese parties can reach a national consensus government, stressing that his party would facilitate the formation of the new government.Aoun

As he met the Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi in Bkirki, Aoun said: “We are facilitating the cabinet formation process.”
He also hoped “there would not be any sign of political deception.”

“I hope we could reach a national consensus government so that it carries out its tasks,” the FPM leader added.

He told reporters that he exchanged with the patriarch viewpoints on the situation in Lebanon.
Aoun noted that the meeting with Rahi along with a delegation from his Change and Reform bloc was aimed at extending his greetings on the occasion of Easter and attending mass in Bkirki.

His remarks come two days before the Premier-designate Tammam Salam launches on Tuesday two-days of consultations with parliamentary blocs to discuss with them the type of the government and the division of portfolios.

Salam was handed on Saturday the tough task of forming a new Lebanese government, with 124 MPs voted in favor of him during the binding parliamentary consultation in Baabda presidential palace.
