Abdullahian said his remarks as he concluded a two day visit to the Egyptian Capital Cairo where he met with the UN-Arab League Special Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi as well as other Egyptian officials to discuss the latest developments in Syria.

The Iranian Deputy FM emphasized the importance of elections and reforms in Syria, but he also stressed that the solution to the crisis must only come from within the Syrian people, and cannot be imposed from outside the country.

During his presser, the Iranian official slammed Qatar's move to grant Syria’s vacant seat in the Arab League to the opposition, asserting that this move will further complicate the crisis and fuel the violence in Syria.

For his part, Brahimi also said that there's no military solution to the crisis-hit Arab country, as the resolution must be a political one initiated from within Syria and implemented through direct talks between the government and its opposition.
