Rouhani to Erdogan: Iran Supports Turkey’s Legal Govt., Nation

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani contacted his Turkish counterpart on recent coup attempt in the country, saying Iran supports the legal government of Turkey and said Iran will stand beside the Turkish nation.

Iran, TurkeyRouhani discussed the recent coup attempt in Turkey with the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in a phone conversation Monday evening where he condemned the upheaval and reaffirmed the Iran stands beside nation and legal government of Turkey.

“Fortunately, Turkish people displayed high political maturity in this coup detat and proved that bullying methods have no place in our region,” Rouhani asserted while pointing to Turkish nation’s defense of democracy and their elected government.

He also expressed pleasure over return of stability to Turkey due to ‘your good management and people’s resistance and resilience.’ “We have not been indifferent toward the coup from the early moments and followed the event carefully; hearing your message asking people to go to the streets ensured us.”

Highlighting Turkey’s position for the Islamic Republic of Iran, Rouhani reaffirmed that “security and stability in Turkey will increase stability and peace in the whole region and we have no doubt some world powers as well as terrorists do not want Islamic countries enjoy stability.”

He also underlined necessity of joint fight of all regional countries against terrorism whereas all should fight ‘hand in hand’ for peace and security of region and ‘get rid of terrorists in region.’

Turkish president for his part appreciated President Rouhani’s call and asserted that “even if tanks and weapons can martyr a group of people, yet they cannot topple ideals of a nation.”

Erdogan stated that normalcy has returned to the situation but underlined that “we cannot consider everything is over yet.” He reaffirmed his country’s willingness and resolute to cooperate with Iran and Russia in order to resolve regional issues and bring peace and stability back to the region.
