Iran to Continue Advisory Missions in Iraq, Syria: Shamkhani

Tehran will not give up its advisory support for Iraq and Syria until the full elimination of terror threats gripping the region

Tehran will not give up its advisory support for Iraq and Syria until the full elimination of terror threats gripping the region, a senior Iranian official said Sunday.

Shamkhani, HakimSecretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Ammar Hakim in Tehran.

Iran “will keep up its advisory cooperation and assistance to the Iraqi and Syrian governments until the threat from terrorist groups in the region is completely eliminated,” Shamkhani said.

He further hailed the recent liberation of the Iraqi city of Fallujah by the army and allied volunteer fighters, saying the victory shows relying on “internal unity and domestic capacities serves as a successful and reliable experience in the process of fighting against terrorism, particularly the liberation operation of Mosul.”

The Iraqi forces managed to fully recapture Fallujah, located in the western province of Anbar, from ISIL on June 26 after conducting an over one-month-long military operation against the Takfiri terrorists.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has vowed the liberation of Mosul in the near future, saying the national flag would be raised in the country's second largest city.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian official said the latest deadly bombings in Iraq “emanate from the anger caused by failures” of terrorists and their supporters.

The US and some of its allies are seeking to justify their presence in Iraq and Syria, which has destabilized the two states, he said, adding, however, that the recent gains of Iraqi people and security forces “showed the complete annihilation of ISIL can be achieved quickly through relying on domestic capacities.”

Shamkhani further said the vigilance of Iraqi clerics and the proper policies adopted by the government helped thwart sectarian rifts and boosted the anti-terror struggles in the country.

For his part, Hakim provided a report on the latest developments in Iraq and hailed Iran’s support for his country in its fight against ISIL.
