Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that terrorism is no longer a local issue as it has become part of a political game aimed at debilitating the countries that are committed to their independent decision.

Assad - Algerian MinisterSyrian President Bashar al-Assad received on Monday Algerian Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel, who is the head of the Syrian-Algerian committee for economic cooperation, and the accompanying delegation, SANA reported.

The President said during the meeting that terrorism is no longer a local issue as it has become part of a political game aimed at debilitating the countries that are committed to their independent decision.

His remarks came in the context of discussing the danger of terrorism and the need for unifying the efforts of all countries to fight this danger.

Messahel presented to President al-Assad Algeria’s experience in combating terrorism and extremism and achieving national reconciliation, stressing his country’s solidarity with the Syrian people and support for their steadfastness in the face of the terror war waged against them.

The President, for his part, affirmed that Syria is in a better situation now and that the Syrian people are still committed to defending their country, expressing appreciation of Algeria’s principled stance towards Syria.

Talks during the meeting, which was attended by Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Humam al-Jazaeri and Chairman of the Planning and International Cooperation Commission Qaiss Khodr, dealt with the bilateral relations between Syria and Algeria and the need to boost them in all the fields.

Enhancing economic relations in particular and broadening the prospects of cooperation to the best interest of the people of both countries were focused on.
