Russia Intensifying Strikes: 20 Sorties, 10 ISIL Targets Attacked

Russian Col. Gen. Andrei Kartapolov announced that Russia was intensifying its strikes in a speech Saturday, with Russian aircrafts conducting 20 flights in less than 24 hours.

aircraftKartapolov said that before Russia began air operations, "American experts informed us that there was nobody but terrorists in the district."

Russian intelligence suggested militants had begun fleeing the strikes, which had targeted ISIL command centers, ammunition depots and training camps, Kartapolov said, according to Russia's Ministry of Defense.

"Panic and desertion has started among them. About 600 mercenaries have left their positions and are trying to flee to Europe. Thus, the Russian airstrikes will not only be continued; their intensiveness will be increased," he said.

In three days, the Russian Air Force has conducted more than 60 flights and bombed over 50 ISIL targets, according to Russia’s top armed forces official. He added the strikes have significantly reduced the terrorists’ combat capabilities.

Aircrafts Performed 20 Sorties in 24 hours

Russian strikesIn its operations in Syria, the Russian Air Force uses high-precision laser-guided H-29L missiles to pierce reinforced terrorist infrastructure, Igor Klimov, Air Force spokesman, said on Sunday.

The H-29L air-to-surface missile armed with 500 kilograms of military-grade explosives is accurate to within two meters and has a combined high explosive and fragmentation effect.

“After the missile is launched, pilot illuminates a target with a laser-controlled aimer while the fighter jet continues to maneuver,” Klimov said.

The H-29L air-to-surface missile is being used by Sukhoi Su-24 and Su-34 bombers.

Russian fighter jets have attacked 10 ISIL targets in Syria in their latest airstrikes, destroying arms depots, training centers and infrastructure, Defense Ministry says. In the last 24 hours, Russian military aircraft have performed 20 sorties.

The Russian air force began strikes in Syria on Wednesday.

Russian President’s Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Saturday said that the false rumors about bombing the “Syrian Moderate Opposition” by the Russian Air Force are imposed from abroad.

Peskov, in an interview with Russia 24 TV, said “We can see that they are trying to impose those games on us,” adding that it is a well-known state … when the first information about Russian airstrikes in Syria “on wrong targets”, as they claimed, appeared even before the Russian warplanes were launched.
