Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali KhameneiThe Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei stressed Sunday the necessity of Iranian readiness to face enemies' plots who "shamelessly" keep threatening Iran with waging military operations.

"They are flagrantly threatening us, yet they expect Iran to give up with its defense capabilities. Even if such threats did not exist, we had to be thoughtful and prepared for possible attacks," Ayatollah Khamenei said receiving a number of high-ranking Iranian Army commanders and staff in Tehran on the National Army Day in Iran.

"The Islamic Republic has proved that it would defend itself powerfully. The whole nation would come together like a fist and face aggressors. Our nation is integrated and unified in defense and maintains its preparedness," Leader asserted.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the other parties keep posing shameless threats against Iran while the nation has repeatedly proven in the past that it would defend itself quite powerfully.

"They threaten us and then expect the Islamic Republic of Iran not to develop a military might," said the leader.

"The West has fabricated a false myth saying that Iran seeks nuclear weapons in a bid to prove Islamic Republic is a source of menace," Ayatollah Khamenei said, adding that the real source of threat is the United States which keeps making unjustified interventions.

"United States’ support for tyrants has resulted in tear-jerking, barbaric and oppressive events in Yemen," the Leader highlighted.

The meeting came after Iran’s Armed Forces held parades across the country to mark the occasion of the National Army Day on April 18.

Army Day is annually celebrated on April 18 and commemorates the anniversary of the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army. The day is marked with nation-wide parades of armed forces in presence of top officials. The main parade was held in Tehran with President Sheikh Hassan Rouhani attending the event.
